BBQ and Picnic at Padawan

A marvelous weekend was spend with good laugh and fun with friends at a beautiful stream at Kampung Benuk, Padawan. It a potential place to be a nature tourism spot.

We start our journey at 8.30 am by going to breakfast, as we were informed by my friend to be at the meeting point at 9.30 am... we rush and at the end all of us meet at 10.30 am but have a good fun drive.

A view of the mountain range at Padawan before we turn into the access road to the picnic spot.

We park our car at our friend's house and walk a bit to the picnic spot. Then we set up the portable tent by the side of the stream.

Nice and welcoming, cool stream water which is not deep and the water current is not strong, suitable for kids to swim in.

Our friends with their kids searching for river snail (Tekoyong in the local language).
Our friend trying his luck fishing at the stream. The fish is biting but unfortunately did not catch any fish.

A good swim at the stream.

BBQ was planned for during this picnic. We had BBQ lamb and cat fish (Ikan keli). we also have pansuh ikan keli (A traditional way of cooking by putting the fish and ingredience into the bamboo).
Yummy...yummy stuff. left me alone doing the BBQ as they are having fun in the stream.

Picnic at a crystal clear river at Benuk, Padawan

Padawan: kampung Benuk still a prestine place to relax.

It have been a long time since we went for an outing. Thus, a plan was plotted to go for a picnic at kampung Benuk, Padawan for a picnic. The picnic location is at Padawan about 30 minutes drive from Kuching City. Who can believe it, near city with clean and clear water flowing. Accoding to my friend, certain deep places we can do some fishing and the kampung (Village) people also did some frog catching for food.

The river where we were having picnic and a swim in it. We have lunch BBQ and also cooked using the bamboo, the traditional way of cooking. No pot being use, only bamboo which we put meat and local vegetable into it and then put it under the fire. The food have a different aroma which you can't get it from anywhere in the restaurant.

The crystal clear river as in the above pictures.

One of the activities can be done is to find and collect river snail which it can be cooked and be eaten. It seem that it have been a longtime since we eat the river snail (in local language we call it 'tekoyong'). My friend's son are having a jolly time playing in the river and collecting the river snail.

Cooking using the bamboo. Nothing beat the traditional way of cooking with it aroma and taste. in the picture above you can see the use of bamboo for cooking.
